4, Hendre Ddu cottages was built in 1873, part of a small terrace to house the lead quarrymen at Hendre Ddu slate mine and their families. The first occupant was Evan James, the steam crane driver, with his wife and 5 children. Like many Victorian quarries Hendre Ddu has an interesting history which is covered in the book 'The Hendre Ddu Tramway' by Dan Quine. Only 2 of the original 6 cottages now remain in a peaceful hidden valley that is virtually traffic free with no light pollution (ideal for star gazing)
The cottage sleeps up to 4 in very comfy beds, has full central heating and a woodburner (basket of logs provided) We provide all linens including 100% cotton bedlinen, towels and teatowels.
Welcome pack included with tea, freshly ground coffee, milk and other good things as available.
